Opening Song

God Is For Us

God Is For Us - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPZnFLhltzQ

By CityAlight

Verse 1

We won't fear the battle, we won't fear the night

We will walk the valley with You by our side

You will go before us, You will lead the way

We have found a refuge, only You can save

Chorus

Sing with joy now: our God is for us

The Father's love is a strong and mighty fortress

Raise your voice now, no love is greater

Who can stand against us if our God is for us

Verse 2

Even when I stumble, even when I fall

Even when I turn back, still Your love is sure

You will not abandon, You will not forsake

You will cheer me onward with never-ending grace

Chorus

Sing with joy now: our God is for us

The Father's love is a strong and mighty fortress

Raise your voice now, no love is greater

Who can stand against us if our God is for us

Words of Forgiveness

Psalm 100

Psalm 100 says:

3 Know that the LORD is God.

It is he who made us, and we are his;

we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving

and his courts with praise;

give thanks to him and praise his name.

5 For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;

his faithfulness continues through all generations.

“The LORD is good,” all the time. He is the reason we have constant joy!

But we are not good. Life in a sinful world along with the sins we ourselves commit; these are the reasons we lose joy and suffer sadness. So we join to say, “God, have mercy on me, a sinner” (Luke 18:13) and we ask God to forgive us for Jesus sake.

Take a moment of silence for reflection and confession of your sins.

God has done more than delete your sin or throw it in the garbage. Psalm 103 says, “as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.” Jesus completely removed all your sin. Romans 3:24 says, “all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” “All are justified” means you have been made right with God and your sin is gone no matter what it was!

Psalm 100 says:

1 Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.

2    Worship the Lord with gladness;

come before him with joyful songs.

Opening Song (Continued)

God is for us

Bridge (x2)

Neither height nor depth can separate us

Hell and death will not defeat us

He who gave His son to free us

Holds me in His love

Chorus (x2)

Sing with joy now: our God is for us

The Father's love is a strong and mighty fortress

Raise your voice now, no love is greater

Who can stand against us if our God is for us

God's Word

It can be easy to miss the majesty of the King of Kings in our every day life. But the majesty so great that stones would praise Him is on display in Isaiah’s words. He is God, and there is no other. This coming King will make everyone humbled and every knee bow.

But he comes to bring righteousness and strength. Because he brings salvation, he brings what no earthly king can provide.

In humility, we bow before the Lord. For in this King will we be eternally exalted.

Listen in as Jon reads Isaiah 45:22-25 to follow along.

Sermon Song

Rejoice

Rejoice - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7Qy1iXZU2g

Words and Music by Dustin Kensrue & Stuart Townend

Verse 1

Come and stand before your Maker

Full of wonder, full of fear

Come behold His power and glory

Yet with confidence draw near

For the One who holds the heavens

And commands the stars above

Is the God who bends to bless us

With an unrelenting love

Chorus 1

Rejoice, come and lift your hands and

Raise your voice, He is worthy of our praise

Rejoice, sing of mercies of your King

And with trembling, rejoice

Verse 2

We are children of the promise

The beloved of the Lord

Won with everlasting kindness

Bought with sacrificial blood

Bringing reconciliation

To a world that longs to know

The affections of a Father

Who will never let them go

Chorus 1

Rejoice, come and lift your hands and

Raise your voice, He is worthy of our praise

Rejoice, sing of mercies of your King

And with trembling, rejoice

Verse 3

All our sickness, all our sorrows

Jesus carried up the hill

He has walked this path before us

He is walking with us still

Turning tragedy to triumph

Turning agony to praise

There is blessing in the battle

So take heart and stand amazed

Chorus 2

Rejoice, when you cry to Him He hears

Your voice, He will wipe away your tears

Rejoice, in the midst of suffering

He will help you sing

Chorus 1

Rejoice, come and lift your hands and

Raise your voice, He is worthy of our praise

Rejoice, sing of mercies of your King

And with trembling, rejoice

Yet Not I But Through Christ In Me

Yet Not I But Through Christ In Me - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zundjUFazfg

By Jonny Robinson, Rich Thompson & Michael Farren

Verse 1

What gift of grace is Jesus my redeemer

There is no more for heaven now to give

He is my joy, my righteousness, and freedom

My steadfast love, my deep and boundless peace

Chorus 1

To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus

For my life is wholly bound to His

Oh how strange and divine, I can sing: all is mine!

Yet not I, but through Christ in me

Verse 2

The night is dark but I am not forsaken

For by my side, the Savior He will stay

I labor on in weakness and rejoicing

For in my need, His power is displayed

Chorus 2

To this I hold, my Shepherd will defend me

Through the deepest valley He will lead

Oh the night has been won, and I shall overcome!

Yet not I, but through Christ in me

Verse 3

No fate I dread, I know I am forgiven

The future sure, the price it has been paid

For Jesus bled and suffered for my pardon

And He was raised to overthrow the grave

Chorus 3

To this I hold, my sin has been defeated

Jesus now and ever is my plea

Oh the chains are released, I can sing: I am free!

Yet not I, but through Christ in me

Verse 4

With every breath I long to follow Jesus

For He has said that He will bring me home

And day by day I know He will renew me

Until I stand with joy before the throne

Chorus 4 (x2)

To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus

All the glory evermore to Him

When the race is complete, still my lips shall repeat

Yet not I, but through Christ in me!

Outro

When the race is complete, still my lips shall repeat

Yet not I, but through Christ in me!

Yet not I, but through Christ in me!

Yet not I, but through Christ in me!

Confession of Faith

The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation, he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary, and became fully human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate. He suffered death and was buried.

On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who in unity with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

We look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen

Thanksgiving

We don’t primarily gather offerings to simply keep ministry going or even to expand ministry (though those are certainly both blessings of our offerings)

Primarily, we gather offerings to glorify God. We consider what God has given us to manage (everything we have), and we offer a portion of what he has given us back to him. Giving an offering is an opportunity for you to express faith in and say “thank-you” to a God who has made life-giving promises to you!

You can do just that by clicking the button below.

Prayer

Prayer Requests

The Lord’s Prayer.

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.

Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever.

Amen.

Home Work for Life

This “Homework for Life” is for you and your Life Group to discuss this coming week.

The questions are based on this week’s sermon. If you want to watch the sermon click here.

This sermon is the third sermon in a series called "Joy,” based on the book of Philippians.

Our focus this week is on God's Word in Philippians 1:12-30.

Life Group Discussion Questions

  1. Read Philippians 2:1-11. What insight, principle, or observation from this weekend’s sermon message did you find to be most helpful, encouraging, eye-opening, or troubling? Explain.

  1. Which of these (lies) WRONG reasons to be humble tend to be your reason for humility?
  • “I’m humble because I want to be a good person.”
  • “I’m humble because I am a bad person.”

  1. How does these biblical definitions of humility FREE you? How do they CHALLENGE your ego?
  • Humility is thinking of yourself less, not less of yourself!
  • "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others." (Php 2:3-4)

  1. C.S. Lewis in Mere Christianity, has readers image if you were to meet someone who was truly gospel-humble. Lewis said that if we met a truly gospel-humble person all you would think about them is that they were a joy-filled person who seemed to be totally interested in us!
  • Unpack that quote. What do you like about this "picture" of a truly gospel-humble person?

  1. Humility has a purpose. It is being "like-minded, having the same love (of Christ), being one in spirit (the Holy Spirit) and of one mind." Read John 13:33-34 and John 17:21-23.
  • How can your Life Group level up your Christ-minded likemindedness (i.e unity) with one another?
  • How can you, personally, level up your Christ-minded likemindedness (i.e unity) with others in The Way Church?
