Ruth | 8/02

A sermon series in Ruth.

Welcome to Worship at The Way!

#aPLACEforYOU to find rest

The biblical narrative in the Old Testament book of Ruth is a literary beauty. As much as the scenes captivate audiences, Ruth’s true beauty is found at a crossroad of a different story – the story of the God of faithful love redeeming his people.

Where do you stand in the story? Through the characters of this story we experience an all-to-familiar emptiness, which is the result of faithlessness. At the very same time we know a fullness, which is the result of God’s Faithfulness.

Say "Hello!"

The Way Church family would love to serve you in any way we can during and after worship.

To help us serve you best, please fill in the form below.

There is section for prayer requests in the form.

By selecting Public, we will pray your prayer request together in worship.

By selecting Private, Pastor Matt will pray your prayer privately throughout the week.

Opening Song

Come As You Are

Come As You Are

By David Crowder, Ben Glover &  Matt Maher

Verse 1

Come out of sadness from wherever you've been

Come, broken hearted let rescue begin

Come find your mercy, O sinner, come kneel

We have no sorrow that the Father can't heal

We have no sorrow that the Father can't heal

Chorus

Lay down your bur - dens

Lay down your shame

All who are broken

Lift up your face

O wanderer, come  home

You're not too far

So lay down your hurt, lay down your heart

Come as you are

Verse 2

There's hope for the hopeless

And all those who've strayed

Come sit at the table

Come taste the grace

There's rest for the  weary

Rest that endures

In the blood of the Savior we are made pure

Chorus

Lay down your burdens

Lay down your shame

All who are broken

Lift up your face

O wanderer, come  home

You're not too far

So lay down your hurt, lay down your heart

Bridge

Come as you are

Come as you are

Fall in His arms

Come as you are

Words of Forgiveness

Psalm 51

These words of Forgiveness are based on the ancient warrior poet, King David’s, Psalm 51, written 3000 years ago.

These words remains true to the human soul today, most importantly, so too do God's promise of unfailing love.

Pastor: As we worship, we are gathered in the presence of God, who created us to follow his will and mirror his perfect love for all. But we have failed, and on our own deserve only his anger and eternal separation. Therefore, let us confess our sins to him.

Congregation: Have mercy on me, my God, according to your unfailing love. Wash and cleanse me from all my sin. For I know my sins and I know I have done evil in your sight. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and grant me a willing spirit. Let me hear joy and gladness, and create in me a pure heart, my God.

Silence for personal confession of sins.

Pastor: God, our heavenly Father, has forgiven all your sins. By the perfect life and innocent death of our Lord Jesus Christ, he has removed your guilt forever. You are his own dear child. May God give you strength to live according to his will.

Opening Song (Continued)

Come As You Are

Chorus

Lay down your burdens

Lay down your shame

All who are broken

Lift up your face

O wanderer, come  home

You're not too far

So lay down your hurt, lay down your heart

Come as you are

Come as you are

Come as you are

Verse 3

There's joy for the morning

O sinner, be still

We have no sorrow that the Father can't heal

We have no sorrow that the Father can't heal

Verse 1

I hear the savior say

Thy strength indeed is small

Child of weakness, watch and pray

Find in me thine all in all

Sin had left a crimson stain

He washed it white as snow

Lord, now indeed I find

Thy power and thine alone

Can change the leper's spots

And melt the heart of stone

He washed it white as snow

Verse 3

And when before the throne

I stand in Him complete

Jesus died my soul to save

My lips shall still repeat

Jesus paid it all

All to Him I owe

Sin had left a crimson stain

He washed it white as snow

Sin had left a crimson stain

He washed it white as snow

O praise the one who paid my debt

And raised this life up from the dead

Song of Praise

Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)

Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone)

By John Newtown, Christ Tomlin

Verse 1

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound

That saved a wretch like me!

I once was lost but now am found,

Was blind but now I see.

Verse 2

The Lord has promised good to me;

His Word my hope secures.

He will my shield and portion be

As long as life endures.

Chorus

My chains are gone, I've been set free

My God, my Savior has ransomed me

And like a flood His mercy reigns

Unending love,

Amazing grace

Verse 3

Through many dangers, toils, and snares

I have already come;

'Tis grace has brought me safe thus far,

And grace will lead me home.

Chorus

My chains are gone, I've been set free

My God, my Savior has ransomed me

And like a flood His mercy reigns

Unending love,

Amazing grace

Verse 4

When we've been there ten thousand years,

Bright shining as the sun,

We've no less days to sing God's praise

Than when we'd first begun

Chorus

My chains are gone, I've been set free

My God, my Savior has ransomed me

And like a flood His mercy reigns

Unending love,

Amazing grace

Thanksgiving

We don’t primarily gather offerings to simply keep ministry going or even to expand ministry (though those are certainly both blessings of our offerings)

Primarily, we gather offerings to glorify God. We consider what God has given us to manage (everything we have), and we offer a portion of what he has given us back to him. Giving an offering is an opportunity for you to express faith in and say “thank-you” to a God who has made life-giving promises to you!

You can do just that by clicking the button below.

Prayer

Prayer Requests

The Lord’s Prayer.

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.

Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever.

Amen.

Communion

Communion Song: Nothing But The Blood

Nothing But The Blood

By Robert Lowry

Verse 1

What can wash away my sin?

Nothing but the blood of Jesus;

What can make me whole again?

Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Chorus

Oh! precious is the flow

That makes me white as snow;

No other fount I know,

Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Verse 3

Nothing can for sin atone,

Nothing but the blood of Jesus;

Naught of good that I have done,

Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Chorus

Oh! precious is the flow

That makes me white as snow;

No other fount I know,

Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

WORDS OF INSTITUTION

In Holy Communion God gives us a unique opportunity to publicly confess our unity of faith. He also gives us in a tangible way reassurance that it was his blood, not ours, his body, not ours which paid the ransom price and sealed our salvation.

With joy in our hearts for this great gift from God, let's go before him in prayer:

Lord, we are not willing to be a guest at your holy table. But you are the friend of sinners, and you will not forsake us.

This bread is your body, which removed ours sins on the cross. This wine is your blood, which purifies us from all guilt.

At your invitation we come rejoicing. Receive us, our Savior. AMEN

With joy in our hearts we hear the words of our Savior spoken just as they were almost two thousand years ago.

Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night he was betrayed, took bread;

and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples saying,

Take and eat; this is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

Then he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them saying, “Drink from it all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for you for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

The peace of the Lord be with you always!

Distribution of The Sacrament

We are still adjusting to celebrating Communion since resuming in-person worship, please listen carefully for directions.

Pastor will instruct you when to open and take the elements.

Following the distribution, Pastor will direct the congregation to take a moment of private prayer to give thanks to God for His gifts of forgiveness and faith given to you in Holy Communion.

Speak O Lord

Verse 4

This is all my hope and peace,

Nothing but the blood of Jesus;

This is all my righteousness,

Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Chorus

Oh! precious is the flow

That makes me white as snow;

No other fount I know,

Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Closing Song

Reckless Love

Reckless Love

By Caleb Culver, Cory Asbury & Ran Jackson

Verse 1

Before I spoke a word, You were singing over me

You have been so, so good to me

Before I took a breath, You breathed Your life in me

You have been so, so kind to me

Chorus

Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God

Oh, it chases me down, fights 'til I'm found, leaves the ninety-nine

I couldn't earn it, and I don't deserve it, still, You give Yourself away

Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God

Verse 2

When I was Your foe, still Your love fought for me

You have been so, so good to me

When I felt no worth, You paid it all for me

You have been so, so kind to me

Chorus

Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God

Oh, it chases me down, fights 'til I'm found, leaves the ninety-nine

I couldn't earn it, and I don't deserve it, still, You give Yourself away

Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God

Bridge (x4)

There's no shadow You won't light up

Mountain You won't climb up

Coming after me

There's no wall You won't kick down

Lie You won't tear down

Coming after me
